Being Trusted – Friday Musings from Amy.

My infant son slept at his Grandma’s house last night while I attended the Bolton Business Awards, where we were finalists for Employer of the Year.

I woke up child free! What will I do with all this luxurious time I have this morning? Speaking of time, it is past 9 o clock. I am already ‘late for work’. I’m still extremely groggy (from having stayed up past 10pm) so I do a quick meditation. Then another one to make sure.

I arrive at the office (the conservatory) barefoot, and notice my ‘working from home’ uniform has tea stains on it (see pic). Never mind. I rig up my laptop, and also my breast pump.

I start work, whilst expressing milk – yay for multitasking.

A short while later I find I have wasted ten minutes debating what to do with a butterfly that has made his presence known. My brain cannot decide. Do I put him outside in the rain and bluster, does he want to stay in? I decide to empower him with choice. He wants to sit on my finger, apparently.

I type a while with the butterfly on my finger. Then leave him by an open window and give him the option to stay or go. He braves it, and zigzags off into the air. While I’m up, I put some eggs to boil. Then I cast about for my work phone, which I’ve placed on some forgotten surface after photographing the butterfly.

Eventually I give up looking and resume work.

Argh! I forgot the eggs are still boiling! I run to the kitchen. I have forgotten to put any eggs in the pan.

My working day is now in danger of descending into chaos because the little timer on the bottom of my laptop screen has turned red. If I am inactive for much longer it will start beeping!

Only joking – I work for Becci. “I trust you”, she says. I’ll get through my to-do list today, and if I don’t, I can catch up tomorrow while the baby naps, or do a few more hours next week.

Always our employer of the year #TeamBoo
