Helen’s reflections on five years at Boo

To celebrate five years at Boo HQ, our Director of People and Development Helen reflects on her proud moments, favourite memories and the things she’s looking forward to.

5 years at Boo! It feels like a milestone so I looked up the symbol for a five year anniversary and it is wood and trees – which feels very appropriate as I love nature. It prompted me to go for a walk through the fields to think about what stood out to me from the last 5 years.

Some of my proud moments and favourite memories

Working during the pandemic to provide wellbeing support to staff working tirelessly in the hospital. It was humbling to see how hard they were working

I was grateful to be able to provide a listening ear when they needed it and some treats and goodies to keep them going.

Designing and delivering the ‘Different Conversations’ programme for health and social care staff across Bolton. This work brought together my experiences and learning from right across my career! And I also got to meet some brilliant people that work to make a difference for the people in the home town of Boo.

Having the opportunity to experience island life in Guernsey and the Isle of White whilst delivering our Caring For Your Teams programme. It was great to take our programmes to these islands and also benefit from eating chips on the beach for tea and being surround by such beauty.

Having so many opportunities to learn new things – from people that I meet and work with and also through the networks and training opportunities through my work.

They say that we learn the most in our lives between 0-3 years however I think the last five years come a close second for me!

Achieving things together as a team. Team Boo is just that; a team of us that work really hard to make all things Boo happen! From making sure our customers are well looked after to taking time out to give back to our community. I loved our 10K walk last year to raise money for Backup and I also loved helping to pack the Christmas hampers.

It never fails to amaze me how much we achieve across the team!

Things I am looking forward to

Meeting more wonderful coaching clients.

I love to see people grow in their awareness and to challenge themselves in their reflections and finding their solutions.

It always puts a smile on my face when I receive lovely feedback from my clients, although coaching only works if the person is committed to putting in the work and time to make the changes they are seeking.

Coaching creates the space, the mirror and the challenge for a person to make those changes and I love to be able to provide that.

Developing future courses for our customers. I can’t say exactly what all of these will be – because that depends on what customers ask for! However, I’m excited to see what programmes, plans and facilitation we are involved in the future. I’m looking forward to revamping a couple of our existing programmes in our quieter time (if there is ever such a thing!) in August.

Recruiting associates to Team Boo. This year has been incredibly busy so we are expanding our team of associates. I can’t wait to see who comes on board and to introduce them to our wonderful programmes!

Making more cakes – as the nominated team baker I love to bring some sweet treats to our team days for us all the share. It also gives me a good excuse to try out new recipes and go shopping for cake supplies. I’d better get planning on what to create next…

Continuing to learn.

The thing about my work, is that the more I learn, the more I realise there is more to learn! I love that and it is one of the reasons that I never get bored!

So a massive thanks to Becci for offering me the opportunity 5 years ago to work for Boo. I’m not sure how we have fitted it all in but I’m glad we have!

Helen x
