It’s Good to be Kind

Saffron shares what kindness means to her on Random Acts of Kindness Day 2023…

As I think about kindness on RAK day, the thought of all of the things people have done for me big and small have helped positively impact my life.

One of the small things that brings me joy is the board I have up in my office; I enjoy having drawings I’ve done up there or things that make me feel happy.

What I love the most about it though is the people who have added to my board with their own little drawings, it feels special in its own way x

Experiencing this and many other things leaves a warm feeling in my soul and it helps me to stay more positive for those around me and hopefully do kind things for others

Some ideas to spread Kindness … 💜

  • Share your favourite book with someone
  • Share a snack
  • Give an unexpected gift
  • Hold the door open for somebody
  • Smile as you walk past a stranger
  • Appreciate the small things around you
  • Share a song
  • Ask someone about their day
  • Say something positive about yourself
  • Volunteer

The Science Behind Kindness …

Kindness is scientifically proven to improve the life you lead for yourself but also impact others around you in a positive way:

Kindness Increases …

💜 Energy – People have reported feeling stronger and more energetic after helping others

💜 Lifespan – Those who tend to volunteer experience fewer aches and pains, Giving help to others protects overall health twice as much as aspirin protects against heart disease.

💜 Pleasure – Known as the ‘Helpers High’ this is something people experience after being kind to one another

💜 Serotonin – The feel-good chemical that heals wounds, calms you down and makes you happy 😊

Kindness Decreases…

💜 Pain – Engaging in kindness releases endorphins which is our brains natural painkiller

💜 Stress – Around 23% of people who are perpetually kind have reduced cortisol (which is the stress hormone)

💜 Anxiety – Those with anxiety that have continuously provided kindness to those around them have seen an increase in positive moods

💜 Blood pressure – Emotional warmth from acts of kindness releases a hormone called oxytocin which protects the heart by lowering blood pressure

Kindness is also known to be contagious, those who witness kindness are more likely to make an act of kindness themselves, it truly is a wonderful thing.
