A Little Bolton Wander
A Little Bolton Wander

Last year (after an excitable pitch by Amy and Becci) we were successful in our bid to secure some funding from GM Active Ageing* with the support and guidance of Deborah Drinkall (Engagement and Development Worker (GM) Active Ageing). We had an idea that we wanted to share and we were fully supported to play with this idea and come up with a way to make it a reality. It was also our Amy’s first opportunity to put a bid together in her new role and we jumped at the chance to do something to support the wellbeing of folk on our doorstep in the town centre of Bolton. *The primary outcomes of the GM Active Ageing programme are: To support inactive older people (aged 55+) to achieve at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity per week and build the evidence base about this diverse group in terms of their behaviours and attitudes, how they should be targeted and what approaches do and don’t work.
We came up with the idea of ‘A Little Bolton Wander’ because we are based in the stunning Little Bolton Town Hall and we do like a good wander. Added to this we also really love a good story! We often hold our 1:1s as walking meetings (wandering around our home town whilst we hatch plans for Boo) we realised we have so much to see and so many points of interest and loveliness right in front of us!
We aren’t fans of being told what to do when it comes to getting active and we are guessing you aren’t either. With this in mind we wanted to create an interesting walking route around Bolton that people could do any time they liked with a few stop off points along the way. Our goal is to get out more and enjoy a wander around town and encourage more people to add a few more minutes of walking time into their day. The results will be tested out this week as we try out the route, meet new friends and encourage more physical activity in the town centre.

Join us on Thursday 23rd January for our ‘Little Bolton Wander’, a gentle, fact-filled walk around the most historic bit of Bolton town centre. Leaving from Little Bolton Town Hall at 11am, you’re welcome to come for a cup of tea afterwards. Many of us don’t get enough fresh air and outdoor exercise in the winter so we’ll be walking whatever the weather – bring a brolly or you can borrow one of ours.

We will be enjoying a #LittleBoltonWander every Thursday at 11am but you can go for a walk whenever you like – you don’t have to wait until 11am on Thursdays to do it!
