5 Facts About Mentoring
5 Facts About Mentoring

What is mentoring anyway, and why do we need ‘awareness’ about it?’
Here are 5 facts about mentoring:
- Mentors provide support and guidance on whatever journey the mentee is on. It’s a wonderfully helpful resource, because – unlike reading a book – it involves the transfer of wisdom via the joy of a human relationship.
- Mentoring has plenty of benefits for both mentor and mentee, but it can also help to grow a business. In fact, the Federation of Small Businesses reports that 70% of small business owners that receive mentoring keep their businesses going twice as long as non-mentored entrepreneurs.
- Despite this, according to Sage.com, only 25% of SMEs make use of mentoring. This is a shame, because whatever you’re experiencing in your business – or in your life – there’s someone who has been there before you and learned some valuable lessons.
- Many people who’d make wonderful mentors don’t feel that they are experienced enough or qualified enough and shy away from doing so. Especially women! This has led to a shortage of female mentors.
- You can be both a mentor and a mentee at the same time in your life.
