Exciting news at Boo HQ

Helen has a new job…don’t worry, it’s still at Boo!
Our brilliant Helen tells us all a little bit more about what she will be up to from now on…
I am so excited about my new role as Director of People and Development! It got me reflecting on where it all began and how I have got here…
When I started working with Team Boo in June 2018 I knew it was the start of something exciting. After having worked freelance for 5 years I was ready for a change and ready to be part of something bigger than just me. The challenge was that after working for myself for 5 years, I wasn’t sure how I could fit back in to a world of prescriptive rules and restrictions and was worried I’d miss the freedom to make my own decisions and be creative. It turns out that I really didn’t need to worry. At the time, Team Boo was a smaller team and there was plenty to get stuck into. I hit the ground running and by week 3, I was off for an overnight stay to deliver a coaching programme. It was the start of things to come.
Over my time so far with Team Boo, I have learnt so much and have had loads of opportunity to grow my skills in coaching, facilitation, coaching supervision and so much more. But it isn’t just my skill set that has grown, my confidence has grown too and I put that down to being in a team that puts into practice the things that we talk about in our programmes. Being strength based, compassionate, and good at listening. To know when to ask and when to tell and having open communication. To be brave and vulnerable all at the same time and ultimately to live to our values. I feel that I am valued for who I am, supported through the things I find challenging and forgiven for the odd ‘should have known better’ moments – of which there have been a few!! We have seen the team grow and I have had the absolute privilege of mentoring other members of the team and help them to grow and flourish, bringing their own strengths to Team Boo.
It is all of this that has helped me to think about ‘what’s next?’ and when Becci asked me if I would like to take on more responsibility, I jumped at the opportunity!
As we are growing, there are other areas that need some development, and we need to make sure that we are all onboard in ensuring our team are well looked after and that our customers get the best possible experience from Team Boo. In my new role I will look at developing the way in which we welcome new team members and ensure that they are supported in the best way for them. I will be ensuring we have consistent quality across our programmes, and I will be leading on the development of new programmes and learning packages. Obviously, I will also continue with my facilitation and coaching – I would never want to miss the opportunity of working with our wonderful customers.
The amazing leadership qualities of our wonderful Becci Boo have been an inspiration, and I hope I can demonstrate that inspiration in my new role.
Who knows what other magic we can create over the next 3 years!
Helen Smith – People & Development Director x
