Here’s a message from our newest recruit, Amy Rothwell who will be working on all things communications and business development…
I’ve never been so excited to join an organisation.
Since getting to know the Boo crew a couple of years ago, there have been two lightbulb moments they have given me.
First was the idea of making decisions based on values.
This is something we might do when choosing a partner, but rarely something we do when choosing a workplace. Usually, jobs are about money. We might take the first post we are offered because we just need the money. We might leave a job we are happy in, because we’ve been offered more money. It seems straightforward, and familiar enough. We all need money.
But if you could be content without money? Happy without money? If you had to choose between money and love?
One day, inspired, I sat down and worked out my core values. Money was not in my top three, not even in my top ten. In fact I only value money as it enables me to live my life according to my real values, it’s not a value in itself.
It’s hard to pick just three core values. So I picked five:
Fairness, inner peace, happiness, health and adventure.
The second lightbulb moment was whilst listening to Becci deliver a presentation about the Boo way of working. I was captivated – a lot of people in the room were captivated. Here was an organisation that:
– Promotes fairness
– Provides opportunities to help others
– Puts health and wellbeing at the centre of everything
– Recognises that happy people make productive workers
– Would let me spread my wings
I can’t describe all the things I thought and felt after that presentation but I think I can summarise the key message:
You can do anything, and you can do it with love.
A great mantra to work by, and a great mantra to live by.
I can’t wait to get started!
