Spring Clean Your Mind Body and Soul, by our Health and Happiness Coach Priya

Spring is a time of transition, as days grow longer and the weather gets warmer, the world around us comes to life. Use this opportunity to acknowledge your own journey and set intentions for the next season.
When we think about selfcare, it doesn’t have to be all bubble baths, long walks and pamper days. This is a perfect time to realise and release what no longer serves you and take the first step towards your goals by respecting yourself, setting boundaries, spring cleaning your life through mind, body, soul.
Spring time is always a time of year to enjoy the welcoming of new life, it’s the beginning of festivals such as Passover, Palm Sunday, Easter and Spring Equinox. For me it’s a time to celebrate Holi, the first big festival of the New Year in the Hindu Calendar.
This year Holi fell on Sunday 28th March 2021, Holi is also known to many as the Festival Of Colour.
I spent my day observing a Fast and reflecting on the year, Playing with Colour, Creating Art, Cooking a Nice Family Meal. We lit a Garden Fire, a Holi Tradition is to build a big Bonfire which gets rid of negative energy, negative mind chatter and things that do not serve us it’s a form of letting go to make way for growth, The Story of Holi Signifies the triumph of Good over Evil.
The tradition of playing with colour is associated with Lord Krishna and brings with it a celebration of Unity, Love and Living Life.
I honour the significance of Holi and the Playing with Colour in a world where we have so many expectations Holi is a celebration about connection and equality. When we play with colour everyone is welcome regardless of status, gender, age, race… the colours represent equality and unity, when we are all covered with colour there is a feeling of unity in the community, there is no judgement just friendship and smiles.
Spring Cleaning is a great way to declutter but does not need to be just your home, there’s lots of ways we can extend the spring cleaning to other parts of our life:
Clear Your Mind
Is there anything on your mind you are paying more attention to? Can you let go and prioritize your-self? Are you taking on other’s problems? take a moment to reflect and prioritize.
Try – Turning Off Your Phone… Yep I said it… Turn it off take some time to unplug…
Consider trying a Yoga Class, A Guided Meditation, Taking A Mindful Walk. Mindfulness / Taking Notice increases your ability to focus on what’s going on around you simply allowing you to let go of the past and not worry about the future and allows you to focus on what you are doing in the moment.
Try – Practicing Breathing – Taking a Few Slow Deep Breaths allowing your mind to feel calmer and cleaner.
Clean Up Your Body
After months of being coped up inside spend some time outdoors your body will be screaming for fresh air, connecting with nature helps balance your energy.
Are you Feeling Stuck with Unhealthy Habits? Are you eating foods that make you feel lethargic? or are you not getting enough sleep?
You Could De-clutter the body by Cleaning out the fridge and look at ways of Clean Eating.
I’I did this over the weekend and it’s given me a boost to eat more fruit… I’m not great with fruit… that’s my goal.
Try – Drink Warm lemon Water in the Morning is great for detoxifying and remembering to Eat plenty fruit & vegetables helps to build a stronger immune system.
What habits can you change to feel better, Can you Move More, Eat Better, Be Kinder to yourself, and Create Positive Attitudes Towards what you want to change
Spring Clean Your Soul
You might be wondering what this is, just like the mind and body we can hold on to negative attitudes and thoughts which we absorb, maybe it is from a news story or something you read, or a passing comment on a social media update… whatever it is we can hold onto and it can fill up your head space and distract us.
What are some of the things in your life that are distracting you from reaching your goals?
Have you been too busy to schedule in some selfcare, can you prioritize your wellbeing today? and how? This is the key to soul cleansing.
Try – Using a Journal is a great way to discharge your soul, get creative through art and express yourself, maybe its Gardening or Baking it’s finding the things that bring you Joy.
Practice Gratitude – Write Down 3 things daily that you are Grateful for.
Once you start seeing things you are grateful for your brain starts looking for more to be grateful for its like your own magic.
