Happy Birthday to Boo!

Happy Birthday to Boo!

Becci shares some reflections on 9 years of Boo…

Where do I begin?

There was a moment in early 2020 where I wasn’t certain we would make our 8th birthday, let alone our 9th! It was a wobbly time for a week or two. Thankfully we were able to diversify and immediately respond to the needs of our customers and that brings us to where we are now…thriving!

So, how did it all begin?

Back in August 2012, during the London Olympics and off the back of a career in the NHS and a great job within the Co-operative Group, I made the decision to launch Boo. I really didn’t know what to expect. I was confident that I could coach and teach others to coach and I had a few ideas about what I wanted Boo to become but none were as grand as what it has actually become!

Why are we called Boo?

I went over and over a number of options but kept coming back to the strong view I had which was it had to be different and less formal than Becci Martin and Associates 🙂

When I was little my nickname was Becci Boo and when I became pregnant with our daughter Lily we immediately called the bump Little Boo – it just kept popping back into my thinking so I asked our brilliant friend and graphic designer Lindsay from Paper Catwalk to play with the name and see what logo she could come up with. That’s when Boo (the business not the baby) was born!

What have we achieved?

In 9 years (3 as a freelancer and 6 as a limited company) we have achieved loads! Depending on what day it is (and how I am feeling) this achievement list varies so here are some key achievements that matter to me today 🙂

  • We have created learning programmes which have impacted 1000s of participants across the UK
  • We became an approved centre for the Chartered Management Institute in 2018 and its getting busier every year!
  • We founded the Social Business Collective with other amazing and socially responsible organisations in our home town of Bolton
  • We have won a bunch of amazing awards
  • We give back to our community and various charities close to our hearts and will continue to doing so for as long as we can
  • We have increased our employed workforce and our turnover during a global pandemic!
  • We trademarked our logo as it’s now a recognisable brand that makes us smile everyday
  • Launched coaching and values products that you can purchase here
  • We are known for being truly ourselves and really living our values – this matters to us all here at Boo

Who knows what the future holds but we enter our 10th year with gratitude, excitement and some brilliant plans for our 10th birthday party next summer!

Thanks so much for your support, cheerleading and custom – it really does mean the world to us all at Boo.

Becci & Team Boo xx
