Some helpful tips for kids…special guest blog from a much younger member of Team Boo

Dominic Smith (aged 8 years) shares his thoughts on what has been helping him to feel better over the past few weeks…

We all know we need each other more than ever. Here I’m explaining how I am getting through this time.

We all need to accept what we have rather than looking at what we don’t have. This is a great time to start spending more time doing hobbies and with family. My dad has picked up guitar and I’m drawing a lot more.

These are some ideas of what I do when I’m feeling sad:

  • Draw
  • Read
  • Play piano
  • Go into my garden

You can do any of your hobbies. Also, if you talk to someone they can do something to help you.

At my bedtime I play a game I heard on a TV show. It’s called the gratitude game. You ask and answer three questions:

  • What have I done for someone today?
  • What has someone done for me today?
  • What have I learnt today?

As well as these ideas it helps to only check the news once a day.

Being a child myself, it is tough because we are homeschooling. It’s strange as my mum is working with the NHS so she’s not around sometimes. Me and my brother are finding fun things to do. If you look at it from a good point of view then think about all the things you can do rather than the things you can’t do.

I hope you stay safe,
